During March and April 2019, I worked within a group project that involved combining and improving on the systems we created prior in the Gameplay Programming course. This would eventually lead to the creation of a small game that used all of these systems in levels that showcased their potential.
This video showcases the third scene of the game. Like the first scene, the scene’s design was created by myself to showcase further systems, specifically putting the player on a spline.
There are some moving platforms in this section too that I added. The first move up to encourage the player to ride them to a higher section, which showcases the ability for the player to put on a new spline. Another set, one which goes up, and another which goes down, are also next to each other to also accomplish the same option of going to a higher level, but this variation is more challenging.
In hindsight, there are some flaws with this scene that I would not repeat again if I could redo, such as the raw size of the scene which resulted in moments of no content. There is a spiral staircase section at the end which was slotted in just for the sake of using it as it had been made, with no thought into how it could be used in the gameplay.
